KIGU started in 1873 in Prague when Joseph Kiaschek started business as a goldsmith. His passion was soon passed onto his son, Gustav, who continued the business and became a master goldsmith, creating the first gold compact. The name comes from the first two letters of the sons second and first name. Gustav in turn had three sons Charles, Paul and George. Charles was a New York based goldsmith, George moved to London and founded Kigu of London

Style: A beautiful art deco design hinged powder compact

Lid Features: An intricated engine turned design of waves and squiggles with a two-dimensional bow design set in marcasite stones. The compact is opened with a side catch revealing the gold tone inner lid which is also decorated in machine turned vertical lines with the Kigu trademark and signature. Opened with a little thumb catch the inner lid opens to reveal a powder sifter and powder well. The mirror is set in the lid signed with the words “Made in England Kigu Patented” The powder pan in lined in cream enamel

Back Design: Machine turned base designed to avoid fingerprints.

Compact comes with the original pouch

Vintage Condition: Excellent Vintage Condition: a little bit of wear to the silver plate on base and to one side on the lid.
