1970s Laura Ashley Prairie Maxi Dress

Original Vintage: So, when listing this this dress it took me right back to a beautiful store in London back in the 1970s, as I walked in, I was faced with rows of the most beautiful floral print floor length maxi dresses. The floors were stripped oak boards the shop smelt of roses and there were baskets of flowers and pretty white cotton blouses petticoats and aprons I was in heaven it was the one of the first Laura Ashley shops in Sloane Square London it was beautiful. Well, this dress is from this era.

Side seam to side seam across the bust 34” (86 cm)

Side seam to side seam across the bust waist 30” (76 cm) to be pulled in with sash

Back neck to waist 15" (38 cm)

Frill at hem is 8” (20.3 cm) deep onto of the dress therefore the length could be extended

by 2 ½ “(6cm) by removing the frill and lowering it

Fabric: Quality printed cotton a mid-grey background with purple classic Laura Ashley spriggy flower design.


Style: Edwardian Prairie style

Features: Two panels of 1 ¼ " (3 cm) wide cream cotton lace each side of the front bodice, and inserted into the long sleeves, which are finished at the wrist with a 5 “ (12.5 cm) deep cuff with 3 buttons. The skirts are gathered on the waistline, which is then covered and pulled in with the sash. The hem frill could be adjusted up or down to give more or less length to the dress. It also has the original separate sash which can be tied around the waist and in a bow at the back.

Closure: Nylon zip with hook at top

Vintage Condition: Excellent Vintage Condition: There is a very tiny slub in the cotton on the front neckline this is part of the natural cotton, please see close up for detail.
