The Fabric Tech: Calpreta was a highly popular, specialized textile finish developed prominently during the 1950s and 1960s). Rather than being a dress brand itself, Calpreta was a finish applied by the Manchester-based Calico Printers' Association (CPA).
Crease-Resist Finish: The specific "Double Four" label denoted an advanced treatment that allowed cotton, linen, or blended garments to recover from wrinkling naturally, eliminating the need for constant heavy ironing. The background is a soft primrose yellow colour with a soft white and a bold black print of agapanthuses flower heads.
Style: A shirt waster style dress which features a button-down bodice with a double collar and cuff detail. The waist has two sets of poppers on each side of the centre front that when studded together create double one inch knife pleats they are covered by a fixed belt that sits in side belt loops and ties at the back in a bow. The centre seam of the skirt of the dress has a one inch sewn box pleat 9 inches down from the waist.
